Bordoodle grooming that keeps the coat soft and matt-free.

The Bordoodle, sometimes called a Borderdoodle, carries a medium to long wavy coat that can grow dense and hold onto matts behind the ears, along the legs and around the collar. As a Border Collie crossed with a Poodle, it is exactly the kind of oodle we groom every day. We know how to keep it soft, comfortable and looking like itself.

Why the coat needs a specialist

Why a Bordoodle coat needs a specialist.

A Bordoodle inherits two very different coats. The Poodle side brings a soft, dense, curl-prone texture, while the Border Collie side adds length and a wavy, feathered fall through the legs and tail. Together they make a coat that looks relaxed but works hard, trapping loose hair close to the skin instead of shedding it away.

That trapped hair is where matts begin, and on a Bordoodle they gather in the same predictable places: behind the ears, down the legs and around the neck where the collar sits. Left too long they tighten to the skin and stop being brushable. We read each coat first, and if it has gone past the point of a kind brush-out, we will talk you through a shorter, more comfortable clip rather than putting your dog through a painful de-matt.

In the studio

The bordoodle groom we do.

Every Bordoodle groom starts with an honest look at the coat and a chat about the finish you want, from a soft teddy round to a longer, more natural shape. Here is what a visit usually includes.

A teddy round or a natural shape

Our Asian Style gives that plush, rounded teddy look with a soft, full head, and it suits a Bordoodle beautifully. If you prefer something closer to the breed's natural fall, a hand-scissored Style Trim keeps length through the body and legs while staying neat and easy to live with.

Bath, blow-dry and the essentials

Every groom includes a gentle wash, a full blow-dry that lifts and separates that dense coat, and a proper brush-out to find hidden matts. We finish the details that matter: nails, a check and clean of those matt-prone ears, tidy paw pads and a sanitary trim.

Style choices, coat and season

You can keep a Bordoodle long and flowing or take it shorter for an active, muddy-paws lifestyle. We match the length to your brushing time at home and to the season, so a working dog in winter and a beach dog in summer can each have the right coat.

Coat-health always comes before a fast finish. If the coat has matted, we work to what's kind for the dog rather than pulling knots that hurt, and we'll always talk you through it first.

Keeping it easy between visits

How often to groom a Bordoodle.

Most Bordoodles do best on a four to eight week grooming cycle. A dog kept in a longer coat sits at the shorter end of that range, because length plus that dense wave means matts form faster, while a shorter clip can stretch closer to eight weeks.

Between visits, a few minutes of brushing two or three times a week makes all the difference. Use a slicker brush and a metal comb, and pay particular attention to the friction spots behind the ears, in the armpits, along the legs and under the collar. If the comb catches, that is a matt starting, and a quick brush now saves a harder groom later.

Good to know

Bordoodle grooming questions.

My Bordoodle gets matts behind the ears and on the legs. Can you help?

Yes, that is the most common thing we see on the breed. If the matts are still brushable we will work them out gently. If they have tightened to the skin a de-matt would hurt, so we will suggest a shorter, kinder clip and talk it through with you first. Coat health always comes before a look.

How often should I book a groom?

Most Bordoodles suit a four to eight week cycle. Longer coats need the shorter end, around every four to six weeks, and a shorter clip can stretch further. Regular visits plus a little brushing at home keep each groom easier and more comfortable.

What is the most popular style for a Bordoodle?

The soft teddy look from our Asian Style is a favourite, with a rounded body and a full, plush head. Owners who want a more natural, working-dog shape usually choose a hand-scissored Style Trim that keeps length through the legs and tail.

It is my Bordoodle puppy's first groom. What happens?

We keep first visits gentle and unhurried. The aim is a happy introduction to the bath, the dryer and the clippers rather than a dramatic haircut, so your puppy learns that grooming is calm and safe. Early, positive visits make every future groom easier.

How long does a Bordoodle groom take?

Most full grooms take a couple of hours, depending on size, coat length and condition. We do not rush the blow-dry or the brush-out, since that is where a Bordoodle coat is really made comfortable. We will give you a pick-up time when you drop off.

How much does it cost?

For a medium to large Bordoodle, a Full Groom starts from $150, a Style Trim from $165 and an Asian Style from $190. The final price depends on your dog's size and coat condition, and we will confirm it before we start. A small deposit secures the booking.
