Poodle grooming, the breed we're built around.

The poodle coat is the original: a single curly coat that doesn't shed, but grows without stopping and matts if it's left. It's the coat this whole studio was built around, in every clip from a rounded teddy to a clean Asian style. Toy, miniature or standard, we groom poodles every single day.

Why the coat needs a specialist

The poodle coat is a grower, not a shedder.

A poodle wears a single curly coat, not a double one, so it doesn't drop hair around the house. What it does instead is grow, continuously, the way human hair does. Left to its own devices that curl folds in on itself and matts, first behind the ears, under the collar and harness, in the armpits and between the back legs where everything rubs.

Most salons meet a tricky coat with a clipper and take it all off. We were built the other way around. When the poodle is the breed you know inside out, you learn exactly how much length a coat can carry, where it knots, and how to hold a clean shape without shaving the character off. Your poodle gets that, toy through to standard, not a rushed compromise.

In the studio

The poodle groom we do.

Coat-health first, hand-scissored where it counts, and finished to the clip you actually asked for, from a soft teddy to a crisp Asian style.

The signature poodle finish

The look most owners picture: a rounded, plush teddy face and a soft even body, or a fuller Asian style. It's hand-scissored, so the shape sits true and grows out kindly. Prefer a cleaner traditional clip? We do those too.

Bath, dry and full tidy

A proper wash and blow-dry, a full brush-out down to the skin, nails, ear clean, sanitary trim and paw pads. The comfort work that keeps a poodle right, done every time, not on request.

Styles to choose from

A Full Groom for a clean all-over tidy, a Style Trim for a hand-scissored shape, or the Asian Style for a rounder, plush finish. Tell us the length you like and we'll match it.

Coat-health always comes before a fast finish. If the coat has matted, we work to what's kind for the dog rather than pulling knots that hurt, and we'll always talk you through it first.

Keeping it easy between visits

How often should a poodle be groomed?

Because the coat never stops growing, most poodles do best on a full groom every four to six weeks. Stretch it much past that and the curl starts to matt at the friction points, which means a shorter, kinder clip to keep the dog comfortable rather than the length you were after.

Between grooms, a brush right down to the skin two or three times a week, through the legs, behind the ears and under the harness, is what keeps a single coat from felting. A quick surface brush isn't enough, because poodle knots start underneath. If it's been a while, just bring them in, no judgement, and we'll set a rhythm that keeps the coat comfortable and easy to look after.

Good to know

Poodle grooming questions.

How often should I groom my poodle?

Every four to six weeks for a full groom. A poodle coat grows continuously and doesn't shed itself out, so a regular cycle plus a brush to the skin a few times a week is what keeps it comfortable and free of matts.

My poodle is matted. Can you still groom it?

Yes. Comfort comes first, so a tightly matted coat may need a shorter clip rather than hours of painful de-matting. We'll look at the coat, tell you honestly what's kind for the dog, and talk it through before we start.

What's the most popular clip for a poodle?

For pet poodles, the rounded teddy and the plush Asian style are the ones owners ask for most, both hand-scissored. We also do cleaner traditional clips. Bring a photo and we'll match the length and shape.

Do you groom poodle puppies?

We do, with a gentle first groom that keeps the visit calm and unrushed. Starting young teaches a poodle that the bath, dryer and clippers are nothing to worry about, which makes every groom after it easier.

How long does a poodle groom take, and what happens?

It depends on size, length and coat condition, and we don't rush a groom to fit the day. Your poodle is bathed, blow-dried, brushed out, then scissored or clipped to the finish you chose, with nails and ears done too. We'll give you a realistic time when you book.

How much is a poodle groom?

It follows the dog's size, from a toy to a standard, and the service you choose, from a Full Groom to a Style Trim or Asian Style. The final price is set by size and coat condition and confirmed before we begin, and full pricing is on our services page.
