Labradoodle grooming, matched to the coat.

The Labradoodle is a Labrador crossed with a poodle, and its coat can land anywhere from a soft, wavy fleece to a dense, curly wool close to the poodle side. Both hold a lovely shape and both matt if the brushing slips, and there is a great deal more of it on a dog this size. We groom Labradoodle coats every day, so yours leaves comfortable, tidy, and finished the way you asked.

Why the coat needs a specialist

A Labradoodle coat isn't just one coat.

A Labradoodle is a Labrador crossed with a poodle, and the coat it inherits varies more than most crosses. Some carry a soft, wavy fleece, some a dense, curly wool that behaves like a poodle's, and a few a flatter hair coat. The fleece and wool are the ones that catch owners out: they look easy, then knot quietly behind the ears, under the collar and harness, in the armpits and through the trousers on the back legs.

There is also simply more coat here than on a smaller oodle. A Labradoodle is a medium-to-large dog, often 15 to 30kg, and it tends to love water and movement, both of which pack a soft coat into matts when the brushing falls behind. Most salons reach for the clippers the moment that happens. We work poodle and oodle coats all day, so we know where a Labradoodle knots, how much length it can carry, and how to keep the coat rather than shave it off.

In the studio

The labradoodle groom we do.

Coat-health first, hand-scissored where it counts, and finished to the length that suits your Labradoodle and your week.

The teddy finish

The rounded face and soft, even body most Labradoodle owners picture. It's hand-scissored rather than rushed off with a clipper, so the shape sits right on a bigger dog and grows out kindly.

Bath, dry & full tidy

A proper wash and full blow-dry, a complete brush-out, nails, ear clean, sanitary trim and paw pads. On a coat this size the dry and brush-out are half the job, and we never skip them.

Styles to choose from

A Full Groom for a clean all-over tidy, a Style Trim scissored to keep the shape, or the Asian Style for a rounder, plush finish. Prefer a shorter summer cut to stay ahead of the matting? Just say so.

Coat-health always comes before a fast finish. If the coat has matted, we work to what's kind for the dog rather than pulling knots that hurt, and we'll always talk you through it first.

Keeping it easy between visits

How often should a Labradoodle be groomed?

Most Labradoodles do best on a full groom every four to six weeks. A fleece or wool coat on a dog this active will start to matt at the friction points if it is left much longer, and once it has set, a shorter, kinder cut is the comfortable option rather than the length you wanted.

Between grooms, a real brush two or three times a week makes the difference: get right down to the skin through the legs, behind the ears and under the harness, not just over the top. It is a bigger coat than a smaller oodle carries, so a slicker brush and a comb both earn their keep. If a few weeks get away from you, just bring them in and we'll get them comfortable again, no judgement. If keeping to a rhythm is the hard part, The Poodle Club books each groom in for you at a members' price.

Good to know

Labradoodle grooming questions.

How often should I groom my Labradoodle?

Every four to six weeks for a full groom keeps a fleece or wool coat comfortable and holds the shape you like. Brush properly two or three times a week between visits, right down to the skin behind the ears, under the harness and through the back legs, to stop matting setting in.

My Labradoodle is badly matted. Can you still groom it?

Yes. A Labradoodle carries a lot of coat, and when a fleece or wool coat matts down to the skin the kind option is often a shorter clip rather than hours of painful de-matting. We always check the coat and talk you through the choices before we start, with the dog's comfort first.

What's the most popular Labradoodle style?

The teddy finish, a rounded face with a soft, even body, is the one most owners ask for, and it's hand-scissored rather than clipped. Plenty also go for a longer, shaggy fleece look or a shorter summer cut to stay ahead of the matting. Bring a photo and we'll match it.

Do you groom Labradoodle puppies?

We do, and an early, gentle first groom matters even more with a big, bouncy breed. We keep the first visit calm and unrushed so your Labradoodle learns the bath and the dryer are nothing to worry about, which makes every groom after it easier.

How long does a Labradoodle groom take?

Longer than a small oodle, simply because there is more dog and more coat to wash, dry and finish. The exact time depends on size, coat length and condition, and we never rush a groom to fit the day. We'll give you a realistic time when you book.

How much is a Labradoodle groom?

Labradoodles are a medium-to-large dog, so they sit in our larger pricing tiers. There's a Full Groom for a clean all-over tidy, a scissored Style Trim to keep the shape, or a rounder, plush Asian Style. The final price depends on your dog's size and the condition of the coat, and we confirm it before we begin. Full pricing is on our services page.
